For grad students who don't make much money, the cost of studio lessons is rather prohibitive, even when factoring the 50% discount from participating in a faculty-led ensemble. Undergrads who are struggling financially can receive a financial aid subsidy, but for grad students who are struggling financially and who are not in the music department, it is really difficult to pay for music lessons. I do it because it's important to me, but I always struggle with paying for it. I know others who simply are not able to.

I know there are some people who get multiple sets of lessons subsidized, by learning new instruments (for example baroque violin). Other people who are learning other instruments (in my case jazz OR baroque trombone) do not have this luxury. I now have to pay out of pocket for my own independent jazz lessons. This is unfair and needs to be changed.

Anna is AMAZING! She gives extremely encouraging feedback, and strikes the perfect balance between being too strict and too relaxed.
