I would like to actually have lessons instead of having an off-campus teacher most weeks. I have had TWO lessons this entire semester, out of a possible three. I recognize there are some extenuating circumstances this semester with her, but it was largely the same last year when she DID have a driver's license.

Very disappointing, and I am tired of not receiving true instruction even when she does show up. Most of my lesson time (or what's left of it) is given to gossip and drivel and not actually teaching or learning.

Wendy is one of the most empathetic and supportive instructors I have met. She has been very accommodating to my needs as a student receiving lessons on top of other commitments. Additionally, there have been numerous lessons where I have entered the studio feeling upset or anxious and have left feeling more relaxed and confident through either or both a wonderful music session and therapeutic techniques (e.g., breathing exercises) + general guidance. I have not had a better music instructor and I am proud to say that I am a student of Wendy Young.

I am learning a lot about musical theory, the foundations of jazz, and playing piano in general. I find studio classes extremely interesting and good for my mental health. I truly appreciate the opportunity to take studio lessons at Princeton.

Marty always held lessons when expected! Unfortunately I got sick frequently this semester, which meant I had to miss a lot or lessons that we didn't end up making up. I think that I have a better flow now, though, and next semester I'll have more time to work with Marty.

Since I'm a prospective Music Major and I'm also in 6 musical groups, it would be good if I could get a subsidy for lessons. However, I'm not on need-based financial aid, so if I need to pay full price I can. I'm just wondering if perhaps that's an error?

There should be more clarity for keyboardists of all varieties about how the subsidies do or could work. I'm in two ensembles (Chamber Choir and EMP) and obviously the organ is not involved in either of these choral ensembles, so I am not really sure if the subsidy happens for me, even though I am a dedicated member of both ensembles. I'm sure you've all heard it many times from the grad students, but we really miss having studio lessons free of charge–it was a huge reason I initially came to Princeton, so I could expand my musicianship along with scholarship. It's hard to justify the cost though, even though I love studying the organ.
